THE GARAGE

The task was to create an interior garage/shed environment. It had to be in a modern setting, be less than 40,000 tri's for the whole scene and have less than 60mb of texture space. It also had to be within a 10-meter square space and have no windows letting external light in. This was my first ever attempt at creating a busy scene with multiple props.

I imagined the space as somewhere in which projects are undertaken in someone's free time. Someone with a mechanical interest, much like myself. Using wood materials in the scene helped to create a warmer, cosier feel. It worked well to create a slightly sepia tone throughout.

The normal maps in some instances are a little too strong on some of the models. Managing materials and textures was tricky given that this was my first attempt. However, after doing this one project I felt I had learned some fundamental techniques when creating materials and organising a scene that I could carry forward.

If I were to undertake this project again I could have more evenly distributed polygons and included more low poly objects to really make the scene feel full.
